The Lantern Theatre
Our mission is to produce family theatre that reveals and celebrates the stories and history of our region, state and country. In addition, we wish to produce and present events that will afford everyone the opportunity to experience the beauty of Canal Corners Farm and The Gleeson Barn.
Now when we say family theatre, please understand, we do not mean childrens' theatre, we truly mean theatre for the whole family, for everyone. And there's the rub. Producing theatre that captivates a 5 year old and, at the same time, entertains a 15 or 25 or 45 or 85 year old is easier said then done. But this is what we strive for as Carol Drummond, reviewing for Cool Cleveland, attested to last September...
"I had seen the flyers and had hoped the summer would not run out before I had a chance to see it, so I was relieved when I could arrange to go on its last weekend of performances. What a pleasant surprise it turned out to be. The flyer said that Singin’ on the Ohio was family entertainment, and sometimes that can mean kid’s stuff (like Barney), but not Singin’ on the Ohio. The characters were believable and their journey together was both heartwarming and historically accurate...Be sure to plan your visit early in next year’s season because seating is limited, and bring your bike to take a ride on the tow path, where Singin’ on the Ohio is set, after the performance."

Thank you, Miss Drummond. We especially like that last part about "planning your visit early" and "bringing your bike to take a ride on the tow path" before or after the show. And don't forget the picnic. We have plenty of picnic tables and green space around the barn to sit a spell with, that's right, the whole family.
And so as we approach our third season, we thank everyone who joined us last summer and fall and on the first day of Winter, too. A blizzard the first year and almost a flood the second. We are batting two for two.
Thanks, so much, for your support. We hope to see you soon.
David Wingenfeld (Managing Director) In 1972, David Wingenfeld purchased a farm on Tinkers Creek Road, in the heart of the Cuyahoga Valley. It became known as Swan Farm, and with the Erie Canal, Cuyahoga River and Tinkers Creek close by, the soil was perfect and he began his dream of farming. Always sticking to organic gardening guidelines, the small vegetable farm grew into a year round operation that over years sold local residents fresh vegetables, trees, pumpkins and herbs. Children have been visiting the farm on field trips for over 20 years and in 2009 the Wingenfeld family extended their farm into the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. They were given the opportunity to continue farming at the Gleeson Farm, down the street from Swan Farm. Thanks to the Countryside Conservancy Initiative this farm has become Canal Corners Farm & Market. The Wingenfelds will continue to bring area residents, National Park visitors and local restaurants the freshest organic produce, while sticking to sustainable practices to preserve the natural beauty of the Cuyahoga Valley.
